Chris "Cito" Culver Graduates from West Irondequoit High School

A New York Yankee got his high school diploma on Sunday. Chris "Cito" Culver graduated with more than 300 other students from West Irondequoit High School. Culver, a short-stop switch hitter, was the NY Yankees first round draft pick. "It’s nice being here with all my classmates," said Culver. "This is probably the last time I'm going to see a lot of them." Culver leaves Monday morning for Tampa, Florida.

He begins his professional career in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League. "I haven't played in a while since last sectional game so I'm really excited to get back on the field," said Culver. Classmates and their parents say they're happy to see something big happen for a local kid.

"He’s worked really hard and it's been nice watching him grow up and achieve. It's a lifelong dream of his," said Vinessa O'Connor whose daughter is in Culver's graduating class. It hasn't been easy for Culver. His father is in prison for setting the family's house on fire.

Hollerin' in Little Italy!

Little Italy, N.C. (AP) -- A North Carolina man who won the National Hollerin' Contest says he almost disqualified himself by going over the four-minute time limit.

Tony Peacock of Greensboro won the 42nd annual contest this past weekend in Little Italy. His hollerin' rendition of the popular Gershwin tune "Summertime" got him the title.

Peacock says he had to cut short his last holler because he had only two seconds left.

The winner gets bragging rights and opportunities to perform at events and on television.

Participants competed in several categories: men's national hollerin' contest, ladies callin', conch shell blowin', whistlin' and junior and teen hollerin'.
